What to do in Beauty Point Tasmania
Located on the western bank of the beautiful Tamar River, Beauty Point is a quaint little town located less than 1 hour’s drive north of Launceston on the West Tamar Highway. It was the first deep water port on the Tamar River, originally created to service Beaconsfield – as it was the third largest town in Tasmania during the early mining days. The original port was demolished and replaced by the Australian Maritime College (AMC) campus which has two training vessels it launches there.
The town’s other main wharf is now home to the world’s first seahorse aquarium, Seahorse World, as well as the neighbouring Platypus House – home to Platypus and Echidnas.
Beauty Point is a great starting point for a tour of the 20 award-winning wineries and cellar doors in the fertile West Tamar region
The Australian Maritime College (AMC) has one of its Tasmanian campuses in Beauty Point and teaches courses ranging from seamanship to fisheries management. The AMC also includes residence for around 100 students. Beauty Point is directly opposite George Town (on the other side of the river) and is a great starting point for a tour of more than 20 award-wining wineries and cellar doors in the fertile West Tamar region.
