Declared a town in 1891, Huonville is located 40kms south of Hobart this scenic town sits on the banks of the beautiful Huon River with the Hartz Mountains as a stunning backdrop. Huonville is on the doorstep of the world class south-west wilderness and is famous as a major apple growing region and more recently other industries are flourishing including fish farming and cherry orchards.

Huonville serves as a good stop-over on the way to Bruny Island. The town sits near the d’Entrecasteaux channel, which separates Bruny from mainland Tasmania – Huonville and the Huon region were actually named in honour of Admiral Bruni d’Entrecasteaux’s second-in-command, Captain Huon de Kermadec.
Huonville is a treasure trove of nature’s bounty and fine produce, the area produces wines, ciders and stone fruits (cherries, apricots and plums) and of course the famous apples, pears and honey as well as fresh and smoked salmon.
